The Broncos Lacrosse Club is entirely funded through the player try-out and membership fees, and donations by the players’ families. Although other forms of fundraising are discussed from time to time, the Club respects the request from Brophy College Preparatory to refrain from outside fundraising or sponsorship by outside organizations.
The Club Treasurer prepares the annual budget in advance of each season for ratification by the Board, basing the budget on the anticipated number of players and a proposed fee schedule. The budget includes support for (“scholarships” for) a limited number of students for whom the fees are a financial hardship, and is based on break-even funding of basic Club expenses – US Lacrosse and Arizona Youth Lacrosse League (“AYLL”) registration fees, coaching and field costs, uniform replacement, equipment, transportation costs, etc. Any donations are applied to either identified needs (including the purchase of three AEDs in 2007-2008) or general program enrichment, including conditioning programs, team t-shirts, year-end dinners and awards, and meals before late afternoon games.
The two tournaments in which the Club participates – the LaQuinta LaxFest in January and the Jesuit Lacrosse Classic in March – are funded by tournament fees paid by the players. Tournament budgeting also targets break-even, with the fees based on contractual and estimated costs for team registration, transportation, lodging, meals and related costs.
To ensure adequate financing and appropriate use of the Club’s funds, Board approval of the annual fees, budget and any subsequent expense is required. Prior Board approval of all unbudgeted expense is highly recommended as unapproved expenditures may not be reimbursed if the Board feels they aren’t necessary for Club operations or compromise funding of budgeted costs. Any surplus generated by Club operations is retained to support future activity and to fund extraordinary costs, which will include replacement of all uniforms as required to meet standards imposed by AYLL for the 2010 season.
